Three is a crowd, or so they say, but the Runway Royale: Fresh, Fiery, Feisty Fashion Show Competition organized by the Junior Marketing Association (JMA) of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) presented three different fashion etiquettes that complement each other. The 30 student-contestants from Benilde competed to embody the fresh, the fiery, and the feisty on the catwalk while walking the walk in front of judges like Miss Earth 2010 finalist and DLS-CSB alumni Stephany Stefanowitz, and fashion designer Gerry Katigbak.

“Fresh” challenged the models to embody the scent of Pink Water for females and Black Water signature for males, while the pastel-colored clothes in “Fiery” and the layered clothes in “Feisty” both came from Freshgear. The audience, comprised of supportive families and friends, also witnessed fluid moves and solid coordination from the DLS-CSB dance group Comone Ground.

30% of the event’s income was donated to School for Chronically-Ill Children (Silahis Ng Kalusugan: UP-PGH).

Defying the common notion that MIT students lose the right to a night life, the MAPUA Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (IE-EMG) held Mr. & Ms. IE-EMG 2011 Equinox complete with a lively crowd, beautiful faces, and dance groove music. The attendees made sure to dress up to the occasion while the hosts provided a sumptuous dinner for the very supportive families, friends, and IE-EMG faculty.

Equinox, the title of the 2011 Mr. & Ms. MIT IE-EMG Pageant and Fashion Show held at Area05 in Tomas Morato last November 26, refers to the time of year when day and night share an equal length of time. The event lived up to its celestial name when the Mr. & Ms. Contestants donned otherworldly designs on the catwalk. They were introduced with a clash of classic black and white materials in unconventional cuts and shapes. The lively hosts promised more of the same flavor to the audience, as well as a lot of freebies, and a brand new cellphone.

After a show of support and talent from last year’s candidates, the contestants hit the catwalk with creatively-designed theme wear reminiscent of classic science fiction movies, followed by clothes designed to be appreciated with the help of black light. After a very special presentation from surprisingly familiar personalities in IE-EMG, the contestants modeled night dresses and formal wear for the crowning of the Mr. & Ms. IE-EMG 2011.

The winners:
• Mr. IE-EMG 2011 Christian Paul Magtibay
• Ms. IE-EMG 2011 Patricia Marie Roxas
• Mr. IE 2011 Ralph Raymund Ocampo
• Ms. IE 2011 Arianne Gatchalian
• Mr. EMG 2011 Enrique Roque
• Ms. EMG 2011 Patricia Angelica Matibag

The show was graced by the presence of former Viva Hotbabe Jennifer Lee, an energetic performance from the JX Dance Crew, and the famous designer Mr. Robert Zamora who generously provided the dresses and formal wear for the contestants.

The event, made possible in cooperation with Fashion Designers Alliance Manila, was a feast for the eyes with its bold cuts and vibrant colors and clashes of black and white.
Healthy and Fashionable Lifestyle

In the past few years, we’ve seen a lot dieting and exercise trends become fashion statements. Some earned a loyal base of followers and practitioners, while some simply faded away. One of the long standing basis and unfair basis of ‘health’ these days is the size of one’s body. This should not be so as people have natural different body sizes, metabolism rates, and a lot of other factors which affect the way we look and the standard of one’s ‘beauty’ and ‘health’ should not be based on one size alone.
There are three basic practices in maintaining a healthy body. First of all, one should practice moderation. Cliché as it is, the saying ‘too much of anything is bad’ still holds true. While too little exercise can cause unwanted buildups in the body and loss of flexibility, among others, too much is also bad for one’s health. It is the same with all habits and practices we have picked up overtime. It is a good idea to take special notice of our habits and note whether or not the rate and frequency of our practices is still beneficial to our bodies.
Second, we need to have a definite nutrition plan. This is closely related to moderation as eating is something some of us take for granted. While it is very easy for some people to indulge in junk food, sweets, and high-cholesterol food, we must remember that our body will suffer from it overtime. This does not necessarily mean that we have to go on a rigorous diet every time; it’s just that we need to learn to say no to things that are not good for us.
Third, we have to engage in physical activity. It is proven that exercising has a lot of health benefits for the body. It is not mandatory to take up serious sports, but it is important to incorporate healthy and active choices in our daily habit. An example of this is choosing to use the stairs instead of the elevator, or doing some light exercises instead of just sitting down while watching TV.
Remember that a truly fashionable life is a reflection of a healthy body and mind. We can take confidence in the fact that our beauty goes beyond the superficial.

People these days have so much to do that most think that 24 hours isn’t enough to accomplish everything that needs to be done. After taking care of work, house chores, the necessary rest and other bodily functions, we can only look back and list activities we ought to do— want to do, in fact— but simply cannot find the time for, and exercise is almost always a part of this set.
While some may think that the daily grind stressed one enough to complete forgo exercising, studies have stated time and again that exercise is necessary to enjoy a healthy body. Exercise is not about stressing one’s self but, in fact, helps reduce stress and improve the quality of one’s life. And when it comes to health matters, we shouldn’t wait for an opening to appear in our schedule: If we can’t find time, we have to make it.
Fortunately, there are exercises which can be done while attending to our priority activities. These familiar exercises only require a few minutes:
1.	Speed walking instead of the usual stroll
2.	Using the stairs instead of taking the elevator
3.	Taking short breaks to do exercises like jumping rope, sit ups, jumping jacks, etc.
4.	Dancing around the house
Discipline is important in making the healthy habit of exercising a part of our daily lives. Also, remember to drink a lot of water and do a bit of stretching to warm up and cool down.

Local climate dictates the kind of clothes people usually wear. Living in a tropical and crazy-weather country like the Philippines requires knowledge of the latest weather developments in order to properly dress up for the occasion and possible street situations.

Jeans and T-shirts are widely used and will stand most of the common like a flood-inducing storm, or a hot, sunny day. They fit as a gimmick outfit, as uniform substitute during free or wash days, and can match with different kinds of bags and accessories. Usually, jeans and shirts are paired with shoes, sandals, or slippers.
This month of November and the start of the cold season, layering has become a necessity and a fashion statement. It’s common to find people wearing button-down shirts over tank-tops and other fitting clothes. It’s also quite common to find jackets and scarves as a part of one’s regular getup.

Remember that clothes serve that basic function of protecting its wearer from the elements. Try to think of the possibilities and how you can prepare for situations you may encounter outside your home.

It’s one of those days when something at work or a surprise social activity suddenly leaves you with a pile of clothes lying all over the place. You have the clothes but somehow, you are at a loss on what to wear. In fact, you think that you’ve worn all combinations possible that even your standout clothes won’t give the desired effect anymore.
One good idea is to stick with a basic or authority color and mix it with another color from a palette you enjoy wearing. While these days, it’s good to be adventurous with clothes and sometimes acceptable to wear colorful trousers, it should be noted that people notice tops more than bottoms. Having a pairs of basic-colored pants and colorful and varied designs of tops will definitely give your wardrobe more versatility.
For starters, wardrobes should have a set of colors for easy mixing and matching:
•	Hot colors: burgundy, coral, lilac, peach, pink, purple, red, yellow
•	Cold colors: aqua, blue, bottle green, emerald, midnight blue, mint, teal, turquoise
•	Basic colors: black, brown, gray, navy, stone, tan
•	Light colors: cream, ivory, white
Try working with different colors, styles, fabrics and silhouettes overtime. Mixing and matching outfits could become much easier if wardrobes are planned.

very popular music personalities has now branched out to learning Korean language, food, and fashion sensibilities. In fact, try searching Asian fashion these days, and we will surely find lots and lots of clothes and fashion articles jumping in the bandwagon by claiming that their designs come from Korea and by featuring lovely Korean models.
While there is no actual definition of Korean style clothing, there are a few things which people usually associate with Korean fashion. Among these are:
•	Layering. A country’s local climate dictates what kind of clothing articles its people need and, as a temperate country, Koreans usually layer their clothes to keep warm. This offers a lot of clothing possibilities as layering involves mixing and matching outfits.
•	Color. Korean fashion loves color. And they look good in it, too. They bravely mix and match hues people don’t usually try. A good sense in mixing colors, coupled with layering, makes for a cute and fashionable parade of clothes.
•	Oversized tops and tight jeans/ leggings. With leggings becoming an acceptable and comfortable part of Korean street fashion, oversized tees and tops act as the center of attraction.
Surely, we will see a lot of other trends and colorful pieces coming from Korea.

Here are 15 Quick Fashion tips:

1. Fit is King – The most dramatic improvement you can make in your style is to make sure everything fits impeccably. Most guys wear clothes that are too large. Make sure everything you wear is almost hugging the shape of your body – without being tight. Bad fit is an epidemic, cure yourself.

2. Keep it simple – You want a wardrobe that looks great on you, but don’t overdo it. Don’t wear more than three pieces of jewelry or more than three colors. Don’t dress like a rock star unless you’re in a band. If you want to be flashy, a simpler but stylish look would be sporting a black striped dress shirt with a white blazer, a dark pair of jeans, a dressy belt, and your sharpest dress shoes. You could also add a flashy watch or a simple accessory like an interesting necklace, but nothing more.

3. Change the way you see casual – casual doesn’t have to be boring. Have fun with collared shirts, or take some inspiration from those who approach casual a bit differently.

4. Pay attention to your supporting pieces - Some sweaters are lean and others are big and chunky. The first rule of thumb is that your top and bottom halves need to match. If you’re wearing a big, chunky, rugged fisherman knit sweater, your bottom needs to be rugged, too. Don’t wear a fisherman’s sweater with a beautiful silk-and-wool suit pant. Instead, wear it with something as casual as cargos or jeans, or dress it up with a Harris tweed blazer.

5. Never go shopping alone – Most of the time, it’s tough to trust the sales people because they usually work for commission. Shop with a friend who will give you their honest opinion. Also, read about shopping on a budget.

6. Stay a notch above – Don’t overdo it to a fault, but dare to take some risks. It’s always better to be a little bit overdressed than underdressed in any setting. All you have to do is think about where and who you’re going to be with and just step it up one notch. But make sure you’re not better dressed than someone who is more important in a certain setting, like your boss.

7. Never underestimate the power of details – The last thing on is usually the first thing noticed. So mind the details instead of throwing together the main parts of your outfit. “Details” can include a scarf, a subtle pocket square, or the way you tie your tie knot.

8. Invest in a superb pair of shoes – If it’s one thing that women will notice, it’s your shoes. Especially how clean and sharp they look. It’s easy to wash and press the rest of your clothes to keep them looking new, but most guys disregard their shoes. Show that you’re a man of taste by getting a great pair of shoes and keeping them in pristine condition.

9. Fashion Tees with logos – When you’re going around with a big logo on your shirt, you risk looking like a walking billboard. Lose the lame Coca-Cola shirt and go for a classic v-neck tee or something artsy (check out threadless.com).

10. Disregard trends – Beware of buying something just because it’s “in” right now – stick to what you truly like. A lot of people rush to get in on the latest trend and end up with a bunch of clothes they don’t wear. It’s better to learn to build a versatile and timeless wardrobe first – then bring in your own twists with some of the new fashion. This one tip will save you so much money!

11. Don’t be a sucker for brand names – Don’t be a Patrick Bateman. Before you decide to purchase an item, ask yourself if you are buying it simply because of the brand name or because you love the quality and style. Ask yourself, “Would I buy this if there was no logo on it?”

12. Continually cultivate your image – Invest more time and money into your image. Cultivate your fashion sense. Your style is a huge mode of communication, and is worth caring for as much as your education, career, and relationships. Oscar Schoffler, longtime fashion editor of Esquire once said, “Never underestimate the power of what you wear. After all, there’s just a small bit of yourself sticking out at the collar and cuff. The rest of the world sees what you drape on your frame.”

13. Ask for real feedback - Most of your friends and family aren’t going to go out of their way to tell you what looks bad. You have to ask for it. In fact, ask anyone and everyone you trust to tell you the truth. Ask your hairstylist, ask your best friend, ask your mother! If you think they might be too nice, send me an e-mail (jae@kinowear.com), I have no problem giving out real feedback.

14. Upgrade your shave - Even if your fashion is golden, an unkempt beard can be an attraction killer. Achieve a perfect shave by trying a shave brush & old-fashioned double-edged razor.

15. Experiment with style – The only way you’ll really learn, is if you go out there and try new things. I make an effort to try something completely out of my comfort zone whenever I’m at a store – many times you’ll end up loving something you never thought you would. If you make mistakes, life goes on. So many guys are afraid to express themselves through their style, don’t be one of them.
