In the past few years, we’ve seen a lot dieting and exercise trends become fashion statements. Some earned a loyal base of followers and practitioners, while some simply faded away. One of the long standing basis and unfair basis of ‘health’ these days is the size of one’s body. This should not be so as people have natural different body sizes, metabolism rates, and a lot of other factors which affect the way we look and the standard of one’s ‘beauty’ and ‘health’ should not be based on one size alone.
There are three basic practices in maintaining a healthy body. First of all, one should practice moderation. Cliché as it is, the saying ‘too much of anything is bad’ still holds true. While too little exercise can cause unwanted buildups in the body and loss of flexibility, among others, too much is also bad for one’s health. It is the same with all habits and practices we have picked up overtime. It is a good idea to take special notice of our habits and note whether or not the rate and frequency of our practices is still beneficial to our bodies.
Second, we need to have a definite nutrition plan. This is closely related to moderation as eating is something some of us take for granted. While it is very easy for some people to indulge in junk food, sweets, and high-cholesterol food, we must remember that our body will suffer from it overtime. This does not necessarily mean that we have to go on a rigorous diet every time; it’s just that we need to learn to say no to things that are not good for us.
Third, we have to engage in physical activity. It is proven that exercising has a lot of health benefits for the body. It is not mandatory to take up serious sports, but it is important to incorporate healthy and active choices in our daily habit. An example of this is choosing to use the stairs instead of the elevator, or doing some light exercises instead of just sitting down while watching TV.
Remember that a truly fashionable life is a reflection of a healthy body and mind. We can take confidence in the fact that our beauty goes beyond the superficial.
